Are you a lakefront property owner?

Protecting your lake is more than just not using fertilizer, picking up pet waste and not dumping lawn clippings in the lake.

The MI Shoreland Stewards Program is designed to:
  • Provide recognition for inland lake property owners  for using best management practices to protect their lake.
  • Encourage inland lake property owners to use natural shoreland landscaping techniques and erosion control.
  • Provide educational resources to help manage a property for a healthy lake

  •  Get information on what you are doing well and what might need some improving.
  • There is a Gold, Silver and Bronze recognition level for healthy properties.   Note: not all properties will qualify.

Ask yourself "Do I really need all that lawn?"
You can create an aesthetically appealing lakefront landscape without great expanses of lawn and still provide lake access, relaxing and entertaining areas for your enjoyment.
Which one is your property?

"Reshore the Shore"

Every lakefront lot that has a lawn has the potential to have some native vegetation added back.  This is going to look different for every property.  Big or small - every property can have some native vegetation restored.  There are many ways to be creative!  Identify your priorities and create a plan.
